Fall in Kamakura

Today, about 15 Nambanners went for a scenic run in the hills of Kamakura. The first 6k took us one hour, so, it was more about enjoying the landscape than about training.

But well, we managed to run 15k, so we deserved the Okonomiyaki…

Joongang Ilbo 10k

On Sunday I competed in the 10k supporting race for the Seoul Joongang marathon. Conditions were cool and overcast; ideal conditions to race a 10k.

I had a good start and managed 3:26 ks for the first 3k. Unfortunately I had a few problems with my left ankle and at around 4k I felt a slight ping in the achilles. Although I wasn't really troubled, instinctively I eased off slightly and finished a lonely 4th in 36:02. Slightly slower than my last 10k but under the circumstances I don't…

just a map

Showing some of the paths I use for lsd runs. With google map, here.

Probably well know paths but I thought I might add it anyway. They are all nice depending on mood and speed. Favorite right now is Tamagawajosui to Inokashira-koen…

Dong A Gyeongju Marathon Festival

Yesterday the Gyeongju Dong A Marathon Festival took place; organised by the same people who stage the Seoul Dong A Marathon every March. And a good job they generally do, too. As with all the Dong A events (the others being the aforementioned Seoul event and the Baekje marathon festival in which I took part in 2 weeks ago and wrote about on another blog) it was well organised and certainly blessed by the weather gods.

The festival includes 4 events: a marathon ( which was won…

2010.10.10 10K at 10:00:10 around Saiko Lake in Saitama prefecture.

What a great day for runnning !

I woke up early and soon I was ready to go. I had such an advance on my timing that I decided to make a side trip. I drop at TokaKoen station and I went to see the crew teams on Toda lake, a 3K, 6 lanes crew range. I walked along as I remembered that Saiko lake was just in the continuity of the Toda training place. I walked up to the side of the river and to my surprise, Saiko Lake was a good 3K ahead. So I speed up the pace and covered the…

My Week.

It's been a good week for me, training wise. Even though I've had quite a tiring week, I've managed to get some good training done. So here is how it went.

Monday: AM Easy 60 minutes. No problems;just the usual Monday stiffness. Followed by 10 minutes of core work .

Tuesday: AM My first structured rep session for the fall. 6x3minutes with 90 seconds recovery on the road. Did these on an inclined course. And recorded on my garmin. Distances varied according to wind and…

North of England 6 Stage Road Relay Championships

Saturday saw the staging of the annual North of England Road Relay Championships.

Over recent years my home club Derby have been getting stronger and after the disappointment of last year with one of our best athletes limping round injured...we were really up for trying to break into the medals this time around.

It was a fantastic and emotional day and we ended up taking home the title by 15 seconds, I was lucky enough to take the final spot on the team and ran 5th leg, dropping from… Continue

Chalk and Cheese!!

20 minute fartlek last night; 2 minute surges with 1 minute float recoveries. Felt fantastic; strong on the surges and fluid on the floats. Could have probably done at least a couple more surges if I wanted.

2 hours at 5 am this morning. Well at least I managed to hack my way around. Understandably the body isn't too way inclined to get going at that time.

Last night's workout and this morning's ramble could well be descibed as chalk and cheese.

Anyway 10k race this…

Recovery

Just over 5 weeks ago, I was in a bike accident and broke my left elbow. It seems that riding on the correct side of the road and obeying the traffic signals, all without wearing headphones or using a keitai is now trumped by the opposite. I'm glad that I wear a helmet.

If any of you have a suggestion to these 2 main questions, I'd appreciate it.

1.) Do you know of any half-marathons in the Tokyo area in early November? This might be easier with a tangible goal ahead. (I may… Continue

Ontake

Last sunday's activities....running up the Ontake Vulcano was a great experience. It's a direct climb of 2300m in one piece, challenging!
