Save the Children Race Report by Chris Parry

This was the Save The Children 10k race. 2.021 laps of Tokyo`s Imperial Palace and another nice race by www.runningintokyo.com team. Managed to get a decent time that is more than 2 minutes faster than my last 10k on same course 4 weeks ago at the TELL 10K. 4th place overall out of 200 or so happy. 2 more KG down and ready for Tri season at race weight I was at in 2010. Beautiful hot sunny day, with smiley happy people. I do not train on this…

SAIKO ECO Race Report

Held in a very pleasant park surrounding a reservoir. Great nature and my dog Prince was free to run around and greet everyone. I was not expecting such a nice day, and great to see so many Nanban people running (Elsie/Adrian) organizing (Bernd, Juegen (Race Director), Greg, Masako, Chiba etc….).

The course was 2 loops around the resevoir. Mostly flat and no u turns, so fast. Delighted to run 2 minutes and 20 seconds faster than my last 10k at the vegetable marathon 1 month ago. My…

Japan’s “Marathon Boom” Research Project

Hello Namban runners - hope you are all enjoying the haru in Japan.

Good luck to all those participating in the many great running events available at this time in Japan.

I am finishing my Japanese Degree at Monash University in Melbourne Australia at the moment.

Part of the current module involves a research project on a current theme in Japan.

I thought it a great opportunity to research the "Marathon Boom"

If…

31st Annual Sakura Asahi Full Marathon (sorry for taking over this site!)

Ran the 31st Annual Sakura Full Marathon in a PB of 4:30 (:29 net?).  It was my second FULL. The other was the Osaka last year (4:42). I had a sciatic injury and was planning to cancel but I miraculously felt better since a few days before the event.

My Chiro gave me the go ahead but to just run maybe half then retire. I planned on running 30k slowly then retiring since the 30K point was relatively near the finish area and I could retrieve my gear. However, after 30k the marathon gods…

Tokyo Marathon, supporrting for AKB

Tokyo Marathon on TV

As I have decided to watch the race on TV, I may as well write about how the top-runners are doing. In the early stages, a group of eight runners with Haile Gebresselassi and Japanese runner Masakazu Fujiwara followed the 2:58/k pacemakers, which actually slowed down to 3:02 soon. They reached 10k in 29:54, about the same time the last runners crossed the start…

Tokyo Marathon

Good luck to all of you who are running in this year's Tokyo marathon. Think of all the hard work that you've done to get you in the best shape that you've ever been; in order to run the race of your life. Seize the moment , but really enjoy the occasion. And have a well deserved Yebisu beer or two afterwards.

May the force be with you!

Sunday run now changed to Ohme Kyuryou in Ohme

Because the Takao is too crowded and too "frozen & slippery", I ran the Ohme Kyuryou (青梅丘陵) yesterday. Good view and not too crowded.   Please take a look at the photos under "Photos".

Shibuya Ekiden 2012

Today a group of runners ran the annual Shibuya Ekiden in Yoyogi Park. I ran on the Namban Rengo Masters team, having moved up from a position as a substitute, and not feeling very comfortable about it. However, thanks to my teammate's efforts, we finished in 2nd, beaten only by the Shibuya triathletes, and ahead of our nemesis, the…

Frank Horwill

Frank Horwill MBE passed away at age 84 on 1 January.  He was one of the UK's finest coaches and was the inspiration behind some of the nasty sessions we do (so now you know who to blame...).
