Running in Yokohama (Chika's running course)

Today is my company's birthday. It is automatically "Holiday" for me.

Then I decided to jog with my camera and take some picture of autumn colored my favourite running course ;-)

I started jogging at 7 am. Here is Shinyokohama, sun rose up reflecting buildings in Shin-Yokohama. And a building on right picture is Nissan Studium (well known place for soccer game)

This is…

Tanzawako Marathon - 25NOV07

Tanzawako Marathon was meant more for a day trip out of Tokyo than a race. In fact, having just come back from Ohtawara, I was undecided if to go or not until the very last minute and this indecision took me there just 10 minutes before the race start! My warm up was from the bus stop to the desk to collect the race number, run back to the start line, pass all my clothes to my son and run! I joined the 5K and finished 5th in the over 40 category in 17:39. Quite few… Continue

Toda Saiko Marathon - 18NOV07

Sports & food stalls, free products as giveaway and a perfect organization that went from Half Marathon, 10K, 5K to the 2K for parent and kid and kids only for a total of 6306 entrants. Toda Saiko Marathon, definetely an event to recommend to join.
Just before starting my warm up I realized I did not bring my running watch and I decided to take the race as it would have come and to…

No race today...

Too bad, I missed the chance to run another race in Korea. Just recovered from a stomach flu, I don't how well I would have done, though. I received the following mail from the guy who promised to register me (not anybody I mentioned before):

- 3. Due to my laziness, I forgot your race registeration when I fail
registeration of race. -
Now I know how well Namban registration assistance works!

I'll try again in March!

WARR: World Airline Road Race - 28OCT08

This year WARR (World Airline Road Race) took place in Sydney.
A nice day for a scenic race course along Darling Harbour. May be too many twists and turns but overall, apart for two small uphills, very flat.
Unfortunately the race did not go as I wanted after having trained for so long and so hard...but not everything can be perfect. In Italy there is a say that goes "not all the donugths come with a hole"!
So,…

Ohtawara Marathon

Here are the times and race reports that were provided for last Friday's Ohtawara marathon, half-marathon, and 10k. My apologies for omissions and errors. Nambanners enjoyed superb performances despite the strong winds, recording 5 PBs and capturing 3 award medals:

Yoshida-san 2:50:08

My goal time was 2:50. I did not expect to break my PB of 2:49, and my result was slightly more than a minute slower than my… Continue

Cold, but no cold!

It becomes clearer and clearer that my throat-problems are Tokyo related. It's minus 5 here at night, and even around lunchtime, when I run, only about plus 5, so I do my uphill repeats wearing a relatively heavy long-sleeve. Still, today there was hardly any cough when I finished!

Looking forward to the 10k race in Yeoido at the Han River on Dec. 1.!

Namban International Ladies Marathon

What a nice day for a race in mid November, even a little too hot. So much better than last year.

I was positioned at 5K and 37K, not far from Iidabashi station.

I saw the leaders running strong in 16:30 for the first 5K. Noguchi san leading a group of 6, with Shibui san and Kosgei. Just behind and running strong I saw 5 Namban ladies in black or yellow singlets. It was quite hot at noon.

After a pause at home, I came back to cheer on our runners at 37K just below… Continue

Worldcup Stadium Seoul 5k

I won the 5k at Worldcup Stadium today, in a ridiculously slow 18:45. I had wanted to run 10k, but my friend Jae had only a number for the 5... never mind, it was a good practice, and, as I started from the back, still a reasonable result, and good to win.

Team-mate Chris Doll finished the full marathon in 2:50:40, placing sixth over-all.

The Oda Cough

Changed this to a blog post. I am in Korea now, feeling better, so it must have something to do with Tokyo...

Hi all,

I talked to some of you about this phenomenon, today I went to see a doctor, Yonezawa in Nakanosakaue, and he confirmed one of the explanations.

I ran very well in Korea in September, best was a 37:32 on a hilly course, so I expected to smash all my over 40pb's this winter.

However, when I got to Tokyo, and it got a bit colder, the…

Odawara 10k/Nov. 4.

Today's race was a bit better than Takashimadaira, as a car held me up for a few seconds, so I would have gotten under 37. But I clearly couldn't get the pace up. And it seems the limiting factor are not my legs, as they are not tired. I will have my breathing checked, as I always cough after hard runs. But 12th was not bad, eventhough the race was small - too bad there were no age-groups. And yeah, the race itself was great, well organized, super -friendly people - they even gave us a map with… Continue

Odawara 10k, Sun. 4.11.

Today some Namban Rengo runners made the trek to Odawara for the 10km race.

Mutsumi, Juergen, Daniel and myself.

It was a successful day with Daniel, Mutsumi and myself making road 10km pbs. Juergen running solidy as well and surviving a little run in with a local kuruma.

It was a well run event, a scenic out and back course with a river running down one side of the track and Mt Fuji visible to the naked eye on the other side of the track.

The weather was crisp…

10K race near Odawara

Sunday: Great day for racing, nice, crisp, no wind, great sun, flat

course, great view of Fuji san and Hakone's Caldera. I met Gerard at

Shinjuku and Juergen and Mutsumi at Shimokitazawa on Odakyu sen with a

departure at 7:01. Quite early but necessary as Odawara is far far away. We

had great view of Fuji san on the way, especially from Shin Matsuda.

From the station, the way is well indicated to the meeting point and we set up Juergen's Namban Rengo banner. We had… Continue

2007, Oct. 28:

Suwako HM, Nagano Prefecture:

This was my first race for Namban in Japan and I really enjoyed wearing the Namban shirt because many Japanese people asked me about Namban and they knew the club! So, I had to do my best to keep the good name ;-)

From the start on I could find a good pace (3:45min/km) since I followed a small group of 3-5 people who tried to stay below 1:20 as well.

Speed was a little high but I kept close to the group to give it a try.

5k in 18:30… Continue

2007, Oct. 21

Today a group of Namban Rengo runners followed the Yamamote trail.

We covered 39km in 4:25 h (running time 3:46 h).

It was a great run and a very good opportunity to experience Tokyo.

I could wear my legs out during the last few km by increasinf the speed a little ;-)

Suwako HM is lying ahead, so I will start tapering on Thuersday.

Until then I want to run some more km. Still not decided if I run for a good time or want to squeeze in more km to be prepared for Othawara… Continue
