Thanks to Jon for always suggesting great books! I just read: My LIfe on the Run, by Bart Yasso, covers many of his adventures and weirdest races all over the planet.
Available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/My-Life-Run-Wisdom-Insights/dp/1594869413
No worries...I have a few more to tell you about as well.
Yes...I know Yasso's book...it was of course I who loaned it to you. :-)
Bikila is to be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Bikila-Ethiopias-Barefoot-Tim-Judah/dp/095583...
Pretty good book. Nothing much about his training but quite a bit about his life after his second Olympic Gold.
And Run to overcome here: Run to overcome/Amazon
This is a really good book. Amazing what this guy had to overcome in his early life and also his many injuries. Lots of great race descriptions.
The question should be "Has anyone here NOT read it?" :-)
Interesting book...I had no idea he was so committed.
Certainly a must read.
'Going Long' ..The Best stories from Runner's World.
Published 2010
This is another excellent book with articles from the like of Kenny Moore and Amby Burfoot.
Good writing about a number of runners from the great Joanie Benoit to a non runner reporter who just wanted to run with the elite.
If you like running fiction 'Hitting the Wall' by David Foster 1989 is a good read. Two Novellas.
One story is about the obsession of running and training even when it effects your health. Seemed pretty normal to me.
Another good running book worth a read is 'Staying the course:A runner's toughest race' by Dick Beardsley 2002.
Story of top American Marathon runner Dick Beardsley's running career and subsequent farming and road accidents and how he became addicted to pain killers and how he eventually started forging prescriptions. His battles to over come his dependency on pills.
Beardlsey was famous for his 1982 Boston Marathon battle with Salazar (Duel in the sun).
A very interesting read.
