Today I ran another 10k race in Korea, in the city of Chonan, about hour from Seoul. The actual trip from my guest-house to the venue took about two hours, so I had to get up at 5:30, to get there for a 10am start. It was raining, moderately, but enough to get you shoes wet even before the start. I did not know the course, but I was quite confident with two sub 38 under my belt this year. However, I gave up my hope to improve on the 37:27 I had run two weeks ago as we headed up a hill right from the start. In spite of the hill, I managed a 3:45 first k, and hope returned. The second kilometer was a steep downhill and I ran 3:22 (!!). The 'undulations' continued, as the rain, and I hung in there, the uphills all but one under 4min. I hit the 8k mark in 30:12, and from there, it was all downhill! I blasted through the last 2k in 7:01, running the fastest 10k time in about ten years! I wish I would have had the same preparation two weeks ago, as the conditions were much better in Misari. I could have broken 37! Well, that's the target for next time!
