Written by Charlie Spedding who was the last British athlete to win an Olympic medal in the marathon; bronze in Los Angeles. He also won the 1984 London marathon. Unfortunately his career had many setbacks such as achilles problems. A great book about overcoming obstacles in life; illustrated by plenty of anecdotes such as almost dying while undergoing an operation for an achilles tendon due to an anaesthetic overdose. It also covers in great detail his buildup to the LA Olympic marathon where he finished 3rd; ahead of athletes such as Rob De Castella, Juma Ikangaa, and Toshihiko Seko.
The 1980s was without doubt the golden age of British marathon running, and this book which took Spedding 20 years to write, is a fine read for fans of that era.
