Ran the Sendai Half-M in a PB of 1:46. The race was well organized, the course was beautiful, the city great, got a high five from Q-Chan, a nice relaxing soak in an onsen, a taste of tongue and a great walk through beautiful Matsushima!
This was my first Half-M since my big groin/sciatica injury so paced myself conservatively and evenly (just above 5:00/km) throughout the race and never felt tired so I was able to enjoy the scenery!
I didn’t push myself in order to avoid re-injury or cramping, so I was surprised that I got a PB of 1:46 (by only a minute but I’ll take it !). It gave me some confidence that I can go sub-1:45 with more aggressive pacing.
It was a relatively flat course and there were plenty of water stations. Took many photos but missed a chance to get one with Naoko Takahashi (one of my heroes along with Haile G) when she was high fiving runners in the middle of the course (I was tempted to go back again for a pic after the initial high five!).
