Running in Tokyo/Japan - Marathon/Clubs/Track Races

I have to add this one! I finished my first marathon, in 2:59:52, to the most famous song from the soundtrack! Of course, you all have seen, it but still, a discussion like this has to start with this classic. The film tells the story of two men who run...not to run...but to prove something to the world. They will sacrifice anything to achieve their goals...Except their honor. The story of two British track athletes, one a determined Jew, and the other a devout Christian who compete in the 1924 Olympics.

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962)

Plot: A rebellious youth, sentenced to a boy's reformatory for robbing a bakery, rises through the ranks of the institution through his prowess as a long distance runner. During his solitary runs, reveries of his life and times before his incarceration lead him to re-evaluate his privileged status as the Governor's prize runner.
The highly regarded film is based on a book by Alan Sillitoe, see forum about books.
review of the movie

Another movie well-worth watching is Without Limits about American legend Steve Prefontaine. Personally, I think there were greater runners in his time, but it's a great story, and of course, I like the way his mother speaks English...Hehe.
Plot: The film follows the life of famous 1970s runner Steve Prefontaine from his youth days in Oregon to the University of Oregon where he worked with the legendary coach Bill Bowerman, later to Olympics in Munich and his early death at 24 in a car crash.
I think Without Limits is far better than the other Pre movie, "Prefontaine". Acting is much better and the weird half documentary half movie style of Prefontaine didnt make sense to me.

His Mom has a more active roll in "Prefontaine" though. We get to hear quite a few "Schtevies"...
