The 2014 Gobi March will take place in the Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in the Xinjiang province. The Gobi March is a prestigious rough country footrace and part of the 4 Deserts series, which consist of; The Gobi March (China), the Atacama Crossing (Chile), the Sahara Race (Egypt) and The Last Desert (Antarctica). Along the 250 kilometers / 155 miles of the Gobi March course, the terrain will include grasslands, farmlands, dirt tracks, riverbeds, rolling hills, mountain valleys, plains and plateaus. Competitors will pass through local villages and grazing lands where shepherds tend to their flocks. The course has a number of highlights, including the Mysterious Rock Valley (where the largest group of strange rock formations are located in western China), Mongolian settlements, cable bridges, views of Tian Shan snow peaks, the famous Sayram Lake and a memorial to the founding father of Mongolia, Genghis Khan. Located in close proximity to the Tian Shan Mountains, Bole, the area is known for alpine scenery, vast highlands, green pastures and pristine lakes. Athletes are provided with water and a place to stay in a tent each day and are also supported by professional medical and operations teams. RacingThePlanet is an international based company engaging athletes from over 40 different countries to socialize around camps sites and in their geographically mixed tents.
