Event Description

Please join us for one of the popular events of the Namban Spring campaign - the Fuji Susono Half-Marathon / 10k / 5k / 3k on May 10th.

Registration opens on Jan. 22., and deadline for application is April 6th via Runnet or Sports Entry.

But, need I say this?, we should not blithely assume that we can wait until the last minute to register this year.

Fuji Susono is a roller coaster course through the villages nestled at the base of Mount Fuji. After a stadium start, the half-marathon course climbs 250 meters over 5k, followed by two rolling loop, then returns downhill back to the finish.

But as veterans of Fuji Susono know, the event is not just about the run. The real highlight is the Gotemba Resort, world-renowned for its pure Hot Springs and the onsite Micro-Brewery featuring Scottish bagpipes, its famous German sausages, and Bavarian-style beer brewed with spring water from deep beneath Mount Fuji

Great! I think we will probably drive there from West Tokyo. Will they have my name at the resort? or should we find the Namban group first? I've never been there, so don't really know the set-up. Maybe I'll see you at the TELL Run this weekend? I'll probably just do it as a training run, but still go and support. Thanks for your help with this:)

Hey Barbara and Jennifer and Ivan - We have space for about 40 people at Gotemba Resort and Juergen's friend's house in Gotemba and I am holding space for you. We are also holding space at dinner on Saturday night. Also some people are trying to coordinate reservations on Odakyu Romance Car on Saturday from Shinjuku Station to Gotemba Station. A Romance Car leaves Shinjuku at 10:20am and arrives at 11:53, and also at 13:50 arriving at 15:24
We will meet at 16:00 for check-in is just in front of the Blueberry Lodges http://www.gotembakogenresort.jp/pdf/accessmap_01.pdf - please let me know your interests. I don't have your email addresses so I have not been able to send you the information I sent to everyone else.

That's great news! We would definitely prefer to go up on Saturday. Either option is fine with us, though I suppose that we'd choose the resort as a first choice despite the cost since a group of friends will also being staying at one of the places in the resort. If that's still workable, just let me know what I need to do. Thanks so much!

Hey Barbara -

That is great you will be able to do the Fuji Susono Half.

We do have extra space at a house in Gotemba were several of us are staying.

Also we are holding an extra room at Gotemba Resort (cost is 10,000 yen per person - no meals).

And it is possible to take train to Gotemba on morning of race and catch shuttle bus in time for half marathon start (though you have to get up very early). Let us know your thoughts.

I've signed up late for the Half after being injured and having to pass up the Tokyo Marathon this year. So, for being so late, my husband and I don't have a place to stay yet. Any thoughts? Is it feasible to go up on the morning of the race from West Tokyo?

Hi Jennifer - Our Tokyo-based running group will have about 35 members traveling to Gotemba for the event. So you can have the opportunity to meet lots of new people. The Lodges are full, but Juergen's friend has a large house nearby in Gotemba that is available and so at least a half-dozen of us plan to stay there on the Saturday before the race. Jay

Hello Jay! Thanks for all the information. I would love to stay with you if there is room. I am looking forward it meeting some new people. Please let me know if there is any information you need from me or if I have to do anything to reserve a space. Have a great day!

Hi Jennifer - You should stay with us (25 members of Namban) at Gotemba Resort
http://www.gotembakogenresort.jp/accommodations.html
I can see if there is more space at Blueberry Lodge.
As far as transportation, we will take Romance Car from Shinjuku to Gotemba station then hotel bus, and then arrange taxis on morning of race.
Here is Odakyu Romance car website -

Look forward to seeing you at Fuji Susono.
Please let me know if you want to join us

I have signed up and am looking forward to it. I live in Chiba. Can anyone help me out with directions on how to get there and maybe some instructions about how to reserve accommodations?
