Well, unfortunately, Chris Wardlaw has left the territory!
  • juergen wittstock

Yes, Chris was here until a while ago, and we once stood on the same podium, he first and I fifth, three Chinese between us, we shook hands, and, of course, he said:"Well done mate!"
  • juergen wittstock

No worries, late Jan./early Feb. I should have a lot of time as the university will be finished! Looking forward!
  • juergen wittstock

He's coaching, I see! BTW, it is Muzungu! Asked our room-mate! Hehe!
  • juergen wittstock

    Small, fast Muzungu!
  • juergen wittstock

I'll have to work hard next Saturday to earn that comment!
  • juergen wittstock

    Hi ! Owain
Could you tell me about your plan in Japan?

    Masako
  • kevin tither

Thanks for the welcome! run well!
  • kevin tither

I am quite new to intervals and using a local coach's advice. He had me doing the 800s @2.50 with the recoveries for 2 min. Tempo was at 4.20 per/km. It is tough doing the tempo after the Vo2 stuff. It is also difficult doing it by yourself with other runners in my group going at faster or slower paces. Do you do intervals on your own or with training partners? I am in Tokyo early next month so will hopefully be able to do the Wed session with the guys on here.

Thanks! we're so excited to receive our first comment from the other side of the globe. We hope to see you running with us, Hadar.
  • Joseph Tame

Thank you Owain - Guiness Book of Records is an awesome idea! I'll look into it!
  • kevin tither

Thanks Owain! I have read Daniels before. I followed a Pfitz plan last marathon and Higdon before that. This time I have been using a coach for long runs and vo2/LT work and filling in the rest of the week with  mid-long runs and some GA running. It is a pity I was so busy when I was up in Japan (and the weather at night was bit harsh for me) that I could not run with any Nambanners but I certainly enjoyed running up there a lot! Seems so much easier than HK. How did it compare for you with korea?
  • juergen wittstock

Hey mate, why did your profile pic revert to default?
  • juergen wittstock

Well, Zatopek is a great runner,  but too many Zatopeks on this site...
  • kevin tither

I think the coldest I have ever been was Korea actually. Did a 2-day layover there flying between NZ and Japan in January a few years back. Was not brave enough to run!
  • Adrian Ringin

Hi Owain, yep, this was my best time. This was my second marathon, I also did the Tokyo marathon back in 2007. Then I did it in 6 hours 16 minutes. This time was 5 hours 26 minutes, which is a big improvement. Hopefully the next time I do a marathon I can get it down to 5 hours.
  • kevin tither

Yes, thanks that was a PB so I'm very happy with it. Going to run easy for 2-3 weeks and then I have a trail 1/2 marathon in the HK Hinterlands. Did this race last year(first ever trail race) and enjoyed it a lot. You are doing Jega?
  • Belinda

thanks for your message! The photo was before Tokyo marathon last year. We were freezing our arses off waiting for the race to start and trying to get our last fuel before the race started.

Hope you have a fun year of racing! Any recommendations for full marathons in May or June? anywhere will do!?

    Cheers mate.

  • Belinda

Hey! I'm based in Japan (Mie) but likely to return to Oz in the summer time - though not in time for the GC marathon :( Am gonna be back in Oz for City 2 Surf and Sydney Marathon though!

I found two races in Hokkaido that could be nice - Toya-ko in May and Chiitose in June. Also looking at other runs in Asia :)

  • kevin tither

Gold Coast. Nice! It is on my Bucket List and is a possibility even this year.
  • Emily

  • juergen wittstock

    good job, mate
  • Joseph M. Thompson

My legs seem to be recovering fast.  I plan to take about a week off and then slowly get back into it.  I can't wait to have another crack at the 200k next year.  It won't get the best of me again.
  • Mark Jolin

Hey Owain, right on the Mark Jolin part but far from famous.  Dr Kim is a great guy and I can't say enough wonderful things about him.  Getting together for a run sounds great anytime.  Take care
  • Reginald o'hara

    Nice to meet you.

The ultra run went well for me.

My goal is to complete the badwater ultra in 1.5 yrs or slightly less.

The cliff bars were donated by the company for my race.

    we acquired about 10 boxes.

i will be leaving Korea in 3 mths after being here fo 3 yrs. i love this country but my job takes me back to Ohio.

Thank you for comment. I do not understand how to use well yet.
  • Gaurav Sachdeva

    Dear Owain

Thank you for your help. For me running is synonymous with running for a marathon.Do I have a very parochial view?I have run 2 marathons and always like running long distances.

    Regards

Do you guys train together?  I have a group in Delaware that meets once a week for speed workouts.  Any similar in Tokyo?

Also, I'm interested in running a race or two while I'm out there (May 16 - June 2) do you know of any races during that time frame?  If so, what are they and how would I go about signing up?  Any help is appreciated.

    Mike

  • Joseph M. Thompson

    Hey Owain,

I completely understand.  I am very excited about tomorrow.  I told Na Young that I will leave my running shoes at home...hahaha.  Good luck with preparing everything for your big move.  Hopefully we can visit you in Namhae before you jet out of here.  How's marathon training going?

    We will miss you tomorrow,

Hey mate, do you know: www.racethetrain.co.uk

  • juergen wittstock

    Make friends with George!

  • George Watson

    Hi Owain,

Thanks for the welcome. I do my best promoting Race the Train in what as you say is very beautiful part of Wales. Here in North/ Mid Wales we have best of both worlds with the mountains and the sea being walking and running distance.
Race the Train always scores high on scenary with the runners. Although I am not sure they have the time to and take it in as they compete not only against each other but also the train.

    George
  • George Watson

Yes you will know the area well, but what a small world! We are(Tywyn) 30 miles North of Aberystwyth so it is the nearest big town.
There may Race the Train events, but I think we are the original, with thefirst race being held back in 1983, so 2012 will be the 29th race.
