Running in Tokyo/Japan - Marathon/Clubs/Track Races

東京でのマラソン・陸上・駅伝・・・・・体を鍛えて、環境を守ってエコマラソン

Ran the Kumagaya Half Marathon (21.0975km) PERSONAL BEST TIME 1:41:22 by more than 5 mins!!! 93rd/2000. Very happy with my time and a great way to end the year!

The race was not so organized for it lacked the necessary staff and seemingly budget, although the Kumagaya stadium was used to the fullest, including great change rooms that are normally used by J-Leaguers, with access to 100yen lockers as opposed to bag checks. There were no portable toilets because luckily they had easy access to the plentiful numbers of toilets within the stadium and since it was a 4 lap course, runners could use them even during their run. However, there were not enough signs and staff to tell where to go to check in, change, leave our stuff, pick up our souvenirs etc...confusing and frustrating before a race. They projected attendance at 3000, but the prospect of rain kept many away, I called it at 2000 maybe...

The entertainment were a number of local Yosakoi Japanese Performance teams that performed on the soccer pitch before and during the race in the stadium. Nice.

It was a 4 lap course around the Stadium through a park and on a running trail at 5k each plus a 1.0975 loop at the beginning. Nice spacious suburban manmade parks and cool looking stadiums and tracks...like a mini Olympic facility..A couple of hills that spanned over short briges but basically flat. Great PB course.

Though I usually go out at around 5:15/km or slower at the beginning then go down to 5:00/km at 5k or 10k, I went out at 5:00/km from the beginning recorded negative splits for 10k and 15k at well under 4:50/km. This allowed to to get a PB.

I never got tired or lost my breath even at the end.No mad dash in the final 400m around the track or anything. Just cruised in to save myself for a 30k in 2 weeks. A very ideal race in terms of efficiency. Next time sub 1:40? bahaha...

The weather was cloudy, occasionally misty and hovering at around 8-10 C which was absolutely ideal! I usually don’t like running laps because they bore me and my pace goes down, but today I latched on to a couple of runners running around 4:40 at 13K and the rest is history!

It was my first PB in a long time after an injury plagued year so to end it like this is very satisfying!!
